Zero to Hero Day 2

Yesterday we managed to get out 7 posts on the project site. All were quality posts, nothing spammy. Today I’ve been busy but have added a little snippet listing the post author and post category. Just need to get the formatting worked out. Colors aren’t showing from the right CSS class and I’m not CSS expert!

Yesterday I added a stock photo from iStockPhoto and it looks pretty good. Definitely obvious that it’s stock though. Picture was only $1. We’ve decided that the header section to the right of the photo should highlight some of our posts.

Today I hope to get about 4 posts total finished. One is done already.

Yesterday Andrew’s post received about 200 uniques from Stumbleupon. Don’t know what the real reason is except he has a pretty good size following at Stumbleupon. A few more of those posts and we’ll easily hit our goal of 2,000 uniques.

No earnings from Adsense yet, but I don’t really expect Stumbleupon visitors to click ads. No traffic from Google yet either.

Andrew and I both posted some comments on blogs yesterday with the name showing as “Brandon – Call Center Consultant”. Hopefully some of the dofollow blogs will show our comments and lead Google back to our site with decent anchor text.

I’ve been thinking about buying some links but haven’t decided yet. The site design and development cost about $100 total so I don’t want this project to put us too far into the hole if it doesn’t make any money.

That’s enough for today, back to writing!

30 Day Challenge – Zero to Hero

During the month of November, Andrew and I will be focusing as much as possible on a joint venture. Our joint venture will be all about the call center industry, especially targeting the keywords call center consultant. During November we have 3 goals:

  1. 2,000 unique visitors. For the past few months this site has had about 30 uniques total.
  2. $100 revenue. This site currently generates $0 revenue.
  3. 150 total articles. So far we have about 6.

As the title says, we’re going to take this site from 0 (nothing) to hero (generating income) in one month. If we can do it, so can you!

I don’t know if we’ll be able to do it, but I sure do hope we can. For me, it’s fun to be working with a partner on a project like this. Andrew is an exceptional writer and we should have great success with this. I’ll keep you updated with how our goals are coming along, and if you want to help, just link to the site!

Time For Halloween

My wife and I have been working on getting our Halloween costumes ready for Wednesday.  We’re going to be fishermen and our 6 month old daughter is going to be a fish.  Her costume is perfect and we just need a few finishing touches for our costumes.

One of the things that many people look for when putting together their halloween costume is contact lenses.  While our costumes don’t really need contacts, costumes like dracula and vampires would be perfectly suited for a set of cheap halloween contacts.  If you’re still deciding on a costume, you should be able to order online and get overnight shipping and have it by Wednesday.  While we were at the Sierra Vista mall yesterday, we noticed how expensive halloween costumes were.  When I checked online, they were much cheaper.

Free Niche Idea #5 – Acrylic Aquarium

Acrylic Aquarium PictureAlthough the world of pets and pet products is dominated by a few big companies including PetCo and Drs. Foster and Smith, you can still find a niche and fill it well. One of those niches is acrylic aquariums. Acrylic is a substitute for glass in aquarium building. It scratches easier than glass, but doesn’t break or leak as easily. Most very large (250 gallon +) tanks are built using acrylic instead of glass because acrylic and take a higher pressure without flexing (bowing) and breaking. These reason make acrylic aquariums ideal for people buying a large tank without budgetary concerns. Acrylic can be built from 1/4″ thick to over 1″ thick depending on the needs. Glass aquariums built that think get VERY heavy, quickly.

This niche has a lot of long tail keywords including company brands, new, used, painting, removing scratches, etc. I would imagine a great site for acrylic aquariums would have a lot of pictures of different types of acrylic aquariums because people want to see sizes, shapes, dimensions, and they want to see if they can tell the difference between glass. Since acrylic and aquarium are both easily misspelled words, you want to include common misspellings like aqrilyc, acrylick, acuarium, and akuarium.

Here are the stats for “acrylic aquarium”:

Keywords: Acrylic Aquarium
Competition: 1,170,000
Price per click: Adwords: $1.17/click
Search Volume: Overture: 3,132/month

While the CPC is low, the long tail keywords make this a great build it and forget it site. It may never make you rich, but it can be a steady $20/day site with decent traffic.

Here is a list of over 200 acrylic aquarium keywords.

UPDATE: Looks like one reader, Paul has the right idea, check out his niche site about acrylic aquariums.
